Foreign net purchases of Indonesian SBN reach Rp28.79 trillion in Q3

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign investor appetite for Indonesian Government Securities (SBN) remained robust in the third quarter of 2026, with purchases by non-resident investors reaching Rp28.79 trillion (US$1.59 billion), according to the Financial System Stability Committee (KSSK).

"The SBN market has proven quite resilient amidst volatility in global financial markets,” Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara told the press in Jakarta on Tuesday.

He explained that, in line with these net purchases, the holdings of SBN by non-resident investors increased by 3.28 percent compared to the position at the end of 2025.

Market resilience was further underscored by the yield spread between 10-year benchmark SBN series and 10-year United States Treasury (UST) bonds, which stood at 183 basis points (bps) in Q3 2026—holding steady from 184 bps at the end of 2025.

"This quite positive performance was achieved despite a global environment characterized by high interest rates," Suahasil noted.

The steady performance comes as emerging markets contend with ongoing international challenges, including geopolitical escalations, rising global energy prices fueled by Middle East tensions, and stubborn US Treasury yields driven by heavy US fiscal deficits and tight monetary stances.

These global dynamics risk constraining foreign capital inflows as international investors adopt a cautious posture toward emerging market portfolio assets.

As of October 2026, KSSK has also observed mounting pressure on the domestic financial market, including rupiah exchange rate strain and equity market capital outflows.

Nevertheless, KSSK assesses that Indonesia’s economic fundamentals and adaptive policy responses remain sufficient to uphold financial system stability.

The KSSK pledged to maintain rigorous cross-agency coordination to mitigate potential spillovers from global market shocks moving forward.
