Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta did not hold back on Milan after their 2-0 defeat at home against Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday evening, labelling it ‘one of the worst first halves of the last four or five years’ while criticising the attitude of a number of Rossoneri starters.

Costacurta slams dismal Milan performance against Ferencvaros

Milan were defeated 2-0 at home against Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday evening, their third defeat in four matches in Europe in 2026-27, which has left them in 28th place in the league phase table.

The Rossoneri, who had beaten reigning Serie A champions Inter over the weekend, now find themselves at risk of missing out on qualification to the Europa League knock-out rounds and a guaranteed spot in the round of 16 now requires a minor miracle.

Costacurta was on punditry duty for Milan’s defeat against Ferencvaros on Thursday night and did not find many positives in the Rossoneri performance.

“They were timid, one of the worst halves of the last four or five years,” said Costacurta (via Corriere dello Sport).

Costacurta was particularly annoyed with the performances of the three players who were brought off at half-time: Alphadjo Cisse, Yunus Musah and Sankhoun Diawara.

“When you’re playing a European match, you have to go out there and do your best. The three that Amorim changed in the first half cannot start like that. How can you afford to step onto the pitch with that attitude?”

After defeating Inter with an exceptional team performance over the weekend, Costacurta says that Milan are going from ‘one extreme to another’

“After the derby, I did say that the difficult game would be tonight’s.

“There are good teams hiding in disguise in the Europa League. But Milan’s attitude was crazy. We’re going from one extreme to another. Rabiot also didn’t play well tonight.”
