Egypt’s Parliament grants final approval to amendments on ‘Fund for Honoring Martyrs’

Egypt’s House of Representatives granted the final approval by a standing vote, during its plenary session on Monday, to amendments to the law governing the Fund for Honoring Martyrs and Victims of Military and Security Operations.
The Chair of the Committee on Social Solidarity, Family, and Persons with Disabilities, MP Randa Mostafa, presented the committee’s report on the draft law.
Mostafa said that the legislation aims to provide support, care, and protection to the families of martyrs and those injured in the line of duty, as well as to alleviate their suffering, in recognition of the immense sacrifices made by the martyrs and to ensure the well-being of their families thereafter.
The implementation of the law has highlighted an urgent need for legislative intervention to amend certain provisions, she added, ensuring the law achieves its intended objectives.
She explained that this includes removing obstacles that might prevent eligible individuals from receiving their entitlements, specifically by addressing financial burdens associated with certain medical services and documentation – as well as refining the regulations governing compensation for disabilities and other related provisions.
Furthermore, the amendments aim to simplify procedures for eligible beneficiaries, ensuring they can effectively access the support and compensation to which they are entitled.
They also involve restructuring the regulations concerning disability compensation, thereby providing greater organization and clarity regarding the procedures for claiming such compensation, alongside adjustments to other provisions that govern the operations of the Fund.
