Fans threaten to boycott Davido’s December concerts over Adeleke’s support for Tinubu

Some Nigerians on social media have threatened to boycott Davido’s three December concerts in Lagos after Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term.
The backlash followed Mr Adeleke’s appointment as the Osun coordinator of Mr Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign, a development that surprised some supporters because the governor belongs to the Accord Party.
PREMIUM TIMES earlier reported that Mr Adeleke pledged his support for the president during the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council inauguration at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.
The governor said Mr Tinubu needed another four years to consolidate his administration’s economic reforms.
Three-night residency
Davido announced on X on Thursday that he would perform for three consecutive nights at the National Theatre in Lagos from 17 to 19 December.
The concerts, tagged Oriadè: The Residency, will mark the singer’s return home and commemorate his 15 years in the music industry.
According to the singer, the performances will feature songs from his latest album, Oriadè, alongside selections from his earlier projects.
However, the announcement attracted criticism from some social-media users opposed to his uncle’s support for Mr Tinubu.
Some vowed not to buy tickets for the concerts, while others sarcastically urged the singer to rely on family members and the APC to fill the venue.
Old post resurfaces
The controversy also revived discussions about Davido’s previous remarks against the APC during the Osun governorship election.
In an earlier post on X, the singer described APC supporters in the state as “enemies of progress”.
Some users cited the post while questioning the apparent difference between Davido’s earlier political stance and his uncle’s decision to support the APC president.
Others accused the singer of hypocrisy for remaining silent while Mr Adeleke openly rallied support for Mr Tinubu.
Several users also criticised the Adeleke family, arguing that the governor’s decision disregarded the sacrifices supporters made during the campaign that brought him to office.
They recalled the violence, hardship, and losses some residents allegedly experienced during the struggle for Mr Adeleke’s electoral victory, saying his support for Mr Tinubu undermined those sacrifices.
However, other users urged the public to separate Davido from his uncle’s political choices, arguing that the singer should not be punished for a decision he did not make.
