BSP recognizes South Cotabato as ‘outstanding’ Mindanao partner

KORONADAL CITY — The provincial government of South Cotabato was among six institutions in Mindanao recognized by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for their contributions to the central bank’s programs and advocacies.
The recognition was given during the 2026 Outstanding BSP Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremony held in Davao City on Monday.
Aside from South Cotabato, the BSP honored East West Banking Corp.-Cagayan de Oro, Land Bank of the Philippines-Cash Operations Unit Davao, Land Bank-Cotabato Branch, Regional Development Council-Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Information Office.

The BSP said the Mindanao awardees were recognized for their contributions in areas that included efficient cash circulation, digital payments and financial inclusion, the regional rollout of the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program, and information campaigns supporting BSP advocacies, among others.
South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. said the recognition reflects the work of its employees and partners in promoting “responsible governance, financial inclusion and public service.”
Monetary Board member Romeo Bernardo credited the BSP’s partners for helping support economic growth in Mindanao and the central bank’s programs.
“Last year, five out of Mindanao’s six regions grew faster than the average. You contributed to that growth. You have also contributed to BSP’s initiatives and advocacies, which we thank you for,” Bernardo said.

BSP Deputy Governor Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said local partners play an important role in bringing the central bank’s policies and programs closer to communities.
“A good policy is only the beginning. Its real value is seen when it reaches people and makes a difference in their everyday lives,” Romulo-Puyat said.

The Davao City ceremony concluded the BSP’s 2026 stakeholder appreciation series, following ceremonies for North Luzon in July, the BSP head office and South Luzon in August, and the Visayas also this month.
The Outstanding BSP Stakeholders Appreciation Ceremony, which began in 2004, recognizes partners supporting the central bank’s mandates of promoting price stability, financial stability, and a safe and efficient payments and settlements system. INQ
