Glenn Close reveals why she has been seen using a cane

Glenn Close has revealed that she underwent “complete hip replacement” after she was seen using a cane.

The actress, 79, uploaded a video to her Instagram to explain why she was using it after some fans sent their well wishes.

Close said: “I wanted to just hop on and thank you for all your love and to explain why I have a cane. I have a cane because I had a complete hip replacement.

“Found out that my left hip was in really bad shape and my whole thing right now is to keep myself in running order so that I can really leap into whatever challenges come my way.”

The Fatal Attraction star said she is looking forward to travelling to London for the opening of The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping, followed by an event for the new season of All’s Fair in New York City.

She said: “I’m hobbling around on a cane for now but I hope, come the 26th, I’ll be on a plane for London to be there for the opening of Hunger Games.

“Then, back to New York for the opening of All’s Fair so I hope to be fully present there, maybe not running around going up mountains but at least I’ll be my good old self.

“Don’t worry, I’m feeling great. I have my wonderful family around me and looking forward to all the adventures coming, so love to everyone.”

Close is a three-time Emmy winner and a Golden Globe and Tony Award winner whose memorable roles include Alex Forrest in Fatal Attraction, Marquise Isabelle de Merteuil in Dangerous Liaisons, Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians, and Patty Hewes in Damages.

Along with The Hunger Games and All’s Fair, she will also be seen in the upcoming British series Up To No Good on Channel 4.
