IEBC suspends Migwani ward by-election following court order
In a public notice, the commission said the orders would remain in force for 30 days pending the hearing of the petition, which is scheduled for November 11, 2026/IEBC

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 27 — The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has suspended the Migwani Ward by-election in Kitui County following a High Court order halting the electoral process for 30 days.

The suspension follows interim conservatory orders issued by the Kitui High Court on October 22 in Constitutional Petition E011 of 2026, filed by Francis Musili Kauta against the IEBC and three other respondents.

In a public notice, the commission said the orders would remain in force for 30 days pending the hearing of the petition, which is scheduled for November 11, 2026.

“The Commission urges members of the public and all stakeholders to take note of this development,” IEBC said, adding that further updates would be communicated through its official channels.l

The affected by-election is for Migwani Ward in Mwingi West Constituency, Kitui County.

The suspension places the electoral process on hold pending further court proceedings.
