Gabby Williams is leading the Golden State Valkyries into the WNBA Finals, and her partner is one of the league's best-known players. Williams has been with New York Liberty guard Marine Johannes for several years. The two met on the French national team, won Olympic medals together, and have faced each other in WNBA games. They have never held a big public announcement, but Williams has spoken warmly about her. Fans are now wondering if the couple is engaged.

Who is Marine Johannes?

Johannes is a 31-year-old guard for the Liberty. She was born and raised in France and began playing basketball at eight. She joined the French national team in 2016 and made her Olympic debut at the Rio Games as one of the youngest players in the tournament. Since 2019, she has split her year between the Liberty and the French club Lyon ASVEL Feminin.

She went undrafted in 2017 but signed with New York in 2019 and has since become a bench player known for her flair and flashy passes. She was on the Liberty team that reached the 2023 WNBA Finals. With France, she won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and silver at the 2024 Paris Games, and Williams played on both teams with her.

How Williams and Johannes got together

The two reportedly met when Williams joined the French national team in 2021, though neither has confirmed when their romance began. The relationship was first confirmed by accident at the 2025 All-Star Weekend. Courtney Williams was live streaming on the StudBudz Twitch channel when she joked with Gabby and told Johannes, “I love your woman.” Later, a TV commentator called Johannes “Gabby's longtime partner” during a game, and a Glamour profile of Williams used the same words in August 2026.

Williams has been open about what Johannes means to her. At a press conference in July, she called her partner an “all-star in my life.” She said it makes her job much easier to have someone who is there whether things go well or badly on the court.

Fans have been calling them fiancées on social media, and one rumour says they got engaged during the 2024 Olympics. They have reportedly been seen wearing rings, but neither player has confirmed anything.

Williams, 30, has no children. In April, she shared that she had frozen her eggs, saying she wanted to focus on her career without the worry of family planning and have the option of children in the future.
