The Nepal men’s cricket team on Saturday sealed its berth in the Asia Cup 2027, set to be held in Bangladesh, by winning the ACC Premier Cup in Kuala Lumpur.
It joins the five ICC Full Members from Asia — India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
Nepal faced United Arab Emirates in the final match and won the contest comfortably by 44 runs.
After opting to bat, Sandeep Lamichhane’s side put up 313 for nine on the board, courtesy of a century from opening batter Aasif Sheikh (102 off 106). Gulsan Jha and Rohit Paudel chipped in with contributions through the middle order.
In reply, UAE folded for 269 despite a hundred from Rahul Chopra. Pacer Karan KC was the star with the ball, ending with figures three for 49 in the defence.
Leg-spinner Lamichhane was named the Player of the Series for his 17 wickets in six games.
This will be Nepal’s second appearance in the 50-over iteration of the tournament, having previously featured in the 2023 edition in Sri Lanka.
