Takaichi says Trump gave her ‘detailed’ briefing on U.S.-China summit

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi received a “detailed” briefing from U.S. President Donald Trump over the phone late Saturday about last week’s U.S.-China summit, with the Japanese leader touting the strength of Tokyo’s alliance with Washington.  

Takaichi said Trump had called her “immediately following” Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington, with the allied leaders discussing a number of issues involving China, including economics and security.

“Japan and the United States have now become the most mutually trusting of allies,” Takaichi told reporters. “We confirmed that we will work together to contribute to peace and stability in the region and across the globe.”
