Venezia have signed a 40-year agreement with Venice city council to manage their new stadium, which is set to open during the 2027-28 season.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the stadium will be built in Tessera, on the mainland near Mestre, as part of the Bosco dello Sport sports complex. It will hold up to 18,500 fans for football and will also host concerts, festivals and other major events.

Under the agreement, the club will invest a total of €125m. That covers completing the stadium’s facilities, maintenance and the concession fee over the 40-year period.

“Today is a historic day for Venezia FC and our community. The Bosco dello Sport will be our new home,” said club president Francesca Bodie. “It will be an innovative, inclusive and sustainable stadium of the highest international standards.”

Venezia’s move from the Penzo

The move will end Venezia’s long stay at the Stadio Pierluigi Penzo, one of the oldest grounds in Italy, on the island of Sant’Elena. It can only be reached by boat or on foot, and its limited capacity and facilities have long been an issue for the club.

Venice mayor Simone Venturini described the agreement as the end of decades of debate.

“After decades of debates and words, the dream of a modern and functional stadium is finally something we can touch,” he said. “It will be the home of Venezia FC, but also a source of opportunities for the whole area.”

The new stadium is due to be inaugurated in the second half of the 2027-28 season.
