Malaysian Embassy distributes dry food to staff and citizens hit by Bangkok floods

BANGKOK, Sept 28 — The Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok distributed dry food supplies to 10 Malaysians and locally recruited embassy staff who were directly affected by the floods in the Thai capital.

Malaysian Ambassador to Thailand Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah said the dry food supplies, which could be stored for an extended period, were distributed to those affected on Sunday.

“The aid was handed to 10 recipients identified as being directly affected by the floods, comprising locally recruited embassy staff and Malaysians in the surrounding areas,” he told Bernama.

He added that the assistance was an early emergency intervention aimed at easing the burden of those facing disruptions to food supplies and daily necessities due to the floods.

He said the initiative also reflected the Malaysian Embassy’s concern for the welfare of affected Malaysians and its staff.

The aid distribution mission was led by Wan Zaidi as head of mission, while the on-ground distribution and coordination were headed by Malaysian Defence Attaché to Thailand Brig Gen Datuk Samsul Rizal Musa.

The aid distribution exercise was carried out from 10am to 7pm on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Wan Zaidi said the embassy would continue to monitor the flood situation in Bangkok and provide assistance to affected Malaysians and embassy staff.

He also advised Malaysians in affected areas to remain vigilant amid forecasts of continued rain until Sept 30 and to refer to the official travel advisory issued by the embassy from time to time. — Bernama
