Atos lands £350M beat keeping Met Police applications running

Six-year deal covers management and security, with options to add cloud and digital workplace services

The UK's largest police force has awarded French outsourcer Atos a six-year contract worth up to £350 million to manage and secure applications.

Atos will provide service management, application management, and application security for the Metropolitan Police Service in London. The deal is intended to support the Met's ongoing modernization and simplification of its applications.

Met Police digital product delivery director Jamie Hewitt said: "Our collaboration with Atos will provide a stable digital foundation for our officers and staff, supporting the ongoing modernization and simplification of our application landscape and driving greater efficiency and effectiveness across the technology that underpins frontline policing."

The Met can extend the six-year contract by two years and expand its scope to include managed cloud and digital workplace services.

The award follows another large-scale tech deal for the Met Police earlier this year. In April, it awarded DXC Technology a contract worth up to £1 billion to develop and run a host of business process outsourcing services, including building a new Oracle ERP system.

An award notice said DXC had won the work for the "provision of managed services for HR, finance, and commercial operations… [including] technology enablement, process optimization, and service delivery."

Atos has also secured other UK public sector work this year, including a £78.2 million contract with His Majesty's Revenue & Customs for specialist low-code leadership services.

A little more than two years ago, Atos sought a restructuring deal with investors. In July 2024, it agreed such a deal with a group comprising some of its banks and bondholders.

Atos had also lost a major outsourcing contract with UK public pension provider Nest, which ended a £1.5 billion deal in 2023, just two years into its potential 18-year term. Indian outsourcer TCS later won back the deal without external competition. ®
