The Celebrity Traitors star Michael Sheen admits one element of the show was a 'poisoned chalice'

Translate

The Celebrity Traitors star Michael Sheen has said he was given a "poisoned chalice" by his fellow players. The actor, who was a Faithful, made it so close to the end, before being the last player to be murdered by the Traitors.

Reflecting on being voted 'head of the roundtable' by his fellow players, Sheen said: "As soon as I found out that that had happened, I immediately got concerned, because anything that puts your head above the parapet, anything that makes you stand out, is an issue for you one way or another, either because of how the Faithfuls will react to it, or if the Traitors might see it as a threat."

Indeed, the actor's high status among the group meant the question of how he had managed to survive for so long without being murdered was always lingering around him.

"I think it did make me vulnerable, and increasingly as time went on, it was harder to answer the question of, well, why haven't they got rid of you or recruited you, and I couldn't really answer that," he added.

In the show's penultimate episode, Sheen turned into "Vengeful Daddy," and vowed to make life a "living hell" for the Traitors.

The actor described his declaration as "partly true, and partly heartfelt, but it was also a tactic," adding that he sensed the Traitors were "a bit nervy, and a bit skittish".

Sheen added: "I figured that my time had run out anyway, so I might as well go down in flames on the last day, and it worked well." he said.

Indeed, his tactics led to the banishment of James Acaster, who actually revealed himself to be a Traitor at the roundtable before the group had voted.

Friday night's finale eventually saw Faithfuls Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian "Bash" Croft crowned as the series winner during a tense episode which saw fellow Faithful James Blunt banished just before the game ended.
