MELAKA, Oct 10 — Police arrested four Myanmar nationals to assist in investigations into the death of a one-year-old boy who was suspected to have been neglected and suffered physical injuries.

Melaka police chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the four suspects, two men and two women aged between 20 and 50, including the victim’s mother, were detained separately at two locations along Jalan Melati in Banda Hilir and on Pulau Melaka between 1.30pm and 6pm Thursday.

“Police received a report from a doctor at Melaka Hospital regarding the death of a one-year-old Myanmar boy at about 4pm on Wednesday.

“Initially, the victim’s mother claimed her son died of a seizure, but post-mortem results confirmed the cause of death was due to physical injuries,” he said in a statement here yesterday.

He said all four suspects have been remanded for six days starting yesterday to assist in investigations under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. — Bernama
