2027: Oborevwori mobilises appointees to showcase achievements

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed his political appointees to take the achievements of his administration’s MORE Agenda to wards and communities ahead of the 2027 elections, with an emphasis on communicating government performance with verifiable facts.

Oborevwori gave the directive on Wednesday while declaring open a one-day political seminar for his Special Assistants, Senior Special Assistants and Executive Assistants in Asaba.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Johnson Erijo, the governor said political stakeholders must be able to explain the administration’s programmes and achievements to residents at the grassroots, rather than leaving government policies at the level of official announcements.

The directive comes as the administration prepares to take its performance record to voters ahead of the 2027 elections.

Delta officials have previously said Oborevwori intends to campaign on completed projects and programmes under the MORE Agenda rather than fresh promises.

Oborevwori said the state’s partnership with the Federal Government had created opportunities for Delta, while listing roads, bridges, urban renewal, education, healthcare, human capital development, youth empowerment, enterprise development and security among areas of intervention.

“We promised more, and our record speaks for itself,” he said.

The governor urged political leaders, appointees and supporters to remain united and disciplined while taking the administration’s message to every ward, community and local government area.

He also said the 2027 elections should be viewed beyond politics, arguing that ongoing programmes and projects should be sustained to ensure continued benefits to residents.

Earlier, the Senior Political Adviser to the Governor, Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, told participants that their responsibility should go beyond announcing government programmes.

He urged them to explain the benefits of government policies in ways that were “visible, relatable, verifiable and understandable” to ordinary residents.

Aguariavwodo said the seminar was designed to promote introspection, assessment and strategic planning, stressing that governance should ultimately be measured by its effect on citizens.

The MORE Agenda, according to the governor’s policy framework, is built around Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

In separate goodwill messages, the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, and Francis Onuora urged the political appointees to familiarise themselves with facts, figures and statistics about the administration’s programmes.

They warned that inadequate knowledge could leave government representatives vulnerable to criticism and misinformation.

The seminar was organised by the Office of the Senior Political Adviser and featured presentations by the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Arthur Akpowowo; Provost of Southern Delta University, Orerokpe Campus, Akpovughaye Taiga; and Maxwell Idama Omamuyo.
