Thai para-athlete breaks her own record to win 200m gold

NAGOYA, Japan — 20 October 2026, Thai sprinter Sasirawan Intachot broke her own Asian Para Games record for the second time in two days to win gold in the women’s 200 metres T47 at the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya 2026.

Known as “Aum,” Sasirawan clocked 25.23 seconds in the final, improving on the record she had set during the qualifying round. Her performance secured Thailand’s second gold medal of the Games and the first athletics gold for the Thai para-athletics team.

Maitree Khongrueang, president of the Sports Association for the Disabled of Thailand, congratulated Sasirawan in a Facebook post, praising her determination and the effort behind her record-breaking performance.

He also revealed that Sasirawan had earned a business-class flight home to Thailand, the second such reward for the country’s para-athletes at the Games.

Maitree told Khaosod’s reporter that the business-class reward began as an informal promise before the team travelled to Japan. Athletes had expressed a wish to experience flying business class, so he told them that anyone who won gold would receive a business-class ticket for the return journey.

The proposal was subsequently raised at a meeting of the National Paralympic Committee of Thailand and approved as a gift for Thai athletes across all sports associations who win gold medals.

Sasirawan’s victory adds another record-breaking achievement to Thailand’s campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
