#SHOWBIZ: Donnie Yen's daughter offers 'free' acting, mum Cissy Wang firmly says 'no'

HONG KONG: Behind martial arts legend Donnie Yen's fierce on-screen persona lies an unexpectedly musical heart.

Fans best know the 63-year-old action icon for his legendary Wing Chun strikes in Ip Man, but his 22-year-old daughter, rising pop singer Jasmine Yen, recently revealed her father's secret passion: crooning Elvis Presley classics.

During a recent appearance on the talk show Just Swipe Lah in Singapore to promote her new single, Sweat, Jasmine fondly recalled a funny memory from her teenage years, 8Days reported.

"I remember when I was 14 or 15 years old, he would come to my room, holding a glass of red wine and say, 'Daughter, teach me how to sing Elvis Presley songs.' How do I teach you? I'm only 14 years old!" she laughed, adding that her dad simply loves to sing.

As Jasmine carves out her own path in the music industry, she remains open to collaborating with her legendary father.

She even hinted she would happily act in one of his film projects for free out of filial obedience.

But her mother, Cissy Wang, who was watching the interview off-camera, immediately stepped in to object to the pro bono idea.

"Oh, my mum objects, and it's not for free!" Jasmine chortled, suggesting the couple might need to negotiate family rates.

Despite the shadow of her father's immense international fame, Jasmine insists she feels no pressure.

"I'm not stressed because my dad is indeed my dad. This is the reality, the truth, and I'm very proud that he is my dad, and yes, I'm just focusing on myself," she said.

Though someone once suggested blending martial arts into her music, she prefers sticking to her pop roots for now.

Her latest single and music video draw heavy inspiration from Lady Gaga, an icon she has idolised since childhood—even wearing an exaggerated silver outfit and short wig to school for Halloween at age seven while her peers dressed as princesses.

As for what her famous parents think of her edgier image, Jasmine shared that her mother is fully supportive, whilst her father offers a somewhat quieter approval.

After watching her latest music video, Donnie's understated verdict was simply: "Pretty cool, pretty cool"—proving that even the formidable Ip Man is a gentle softie at home.
