Jimmy Kimmel Says Matthew McConaughey Hugged Him With His Penis Out in Bathroom

Jimmy Kimmel says that Matthew McConaughey once gave him a long hug in a bathroom while the actor’s penis was hanging out of his pants.

The talk show host told the rather surprising anecdote on Monday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! while sitting down with McConaughey’s Brothers co-star Woody Harrelson.

Kimmel explained that during the 2026 Emmys, he went to the bathroom after feeling upset watching the In Memoriam segment, which honored the death of his friend and former show band leader Cleto Escobedo III.

“I started getting choked up,” Kimmel told Harrelson. “I went to the bathroom, I’m washing my hands. I noticed next to me — I mean, right next to me — is Matthew McConaughey. He’s at the urinal. I say, ‘Hey.’ He sees that I’m upset, and he’s like, ‘Hey, are you okay?’ I told him what happened. He, again, is at the urinal. He turns to me and gives me a very nice hug. He hugs me real, you know, very warmly. And I’m hugging him for a little while.”

Kimmel then asked Harrelson something that is probably never a good question to have to ask: “Is your penis out?”

Continued Kimmel: “And [McConaughey] said, ‘Yes it is. Yes it is. In fact, I’m going to rub it up against you a little bit.'”

Amazingly, Kimmel said that Harrelson was also in the bathroom, and came out of a stall and witnessed the end of this encounter. Kimmel asked Harrelson, “Did he explain our interaction, or were you just left with that [image] in your head?”

Harrelson replied, “I thought, ‘Okay, I never try to grade or critique what other people are doing.’ I figured, you guys, whatever your thing is, I don’t want to be the guy to say, ‘No, not in the restroom at the Emmys.'”

Kimmel added about the entire circumstance: “But I will tell you, that lightened the moment considerably.”

McConaughey had no immediate comment on the incident.

McConaughey and Harrelson star in the comedy series Brothers, which premieres on Apple TV on Sept. 23, where they play fictionalized versions of themselves.
