‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ hype is making it impossible to buy a PS5 Pro

Translate

The excitement for Grand Theft Auto 6 is making it really difficult to get a PlayStation 5 Pro.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to launch November 19, 13 years after the release of Grand Theft Auto 5. Earlier this year, game developers Rockstar confirmed the title would run “best” on PlayStation consoles and footage captured on the PS5 Pro was used throughout the Extended Look showcase that premiered last month.

Sony has also confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be “optimised” for the PlayStation 5 Pro. Exact details about the “enhanced” version of the game are still to be announced but fans are expecting improved graphics throughout.

It’s caused a surge of interest in the PlayStation 5 Pro, with many countries now experiencing stock shortages. Press Start has reported that the PS5 Pro is completely sold out across Australia with no word on a restock. It’s a similar story across the USA too with resellers charging up to $1400 for the console which has a RRP of $899.99 while the PS5 Pro is also “currently unavailable” via Sony’s official store in the UK.

It comes after Sony confirmed major price hikes for all its PlayStation consoles earlier this year.

It’s not known if the stock situation will improve either. Last week, Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki confirmed the PlayStation 5 was in the “latter half” of its life cycle after it first launched back in 2020. “That means that we do not need to ‘aggressively sell’ the console today. And rather than that, we’re focusing on recurring revenue from the recurrent userbase,” he said (via IGN).

In a separate interview, Totoki gave an update on the release of the PlayStation 6 which was expected to launch next year but was reportedly delayed due to ongoing chip shortages caused by AI data centers. According to Totoki, Sony still hasn’t “fixed” a release date.

In other news, the team behind Halloween: The Game has quietly removed a controversial sex minigame ahead of the survival horror’s full launch.
