Firefighters battle gas cylinder blaze under London railway arches


Fire crews in south London urged people to “avoid the area” after a gas cylinder caught alight, resulting in a blaze on Wednesday evening.
Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters from New Cross, Deptford, Old Kent Road, Dockhead and surrounding fire stations attended the scene, getting the fire under control by around 9.15pm.
There have been no reports of any injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Station Commander Tony Perks, who was at the scene, said: "Crews worked hard to bring the fire under control as quickly as possible and prevented the fire from spreading.
"Due to the ongoing emergency services presence at the scene, we're urging people to avoid the area this evening where possible to help minimise disruption."
