Two Egyptians Injured in Attack on Riyadh Airport

Translate

Two Egyptian nationals were among eight people injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Wednesday, 7 October. The figures come from a statement by Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), carried by the Saudi Press Agency.

The injured were five Saudi citizens, two Egyptian residents and one Pakistani resident, with injuries ranging from minor to critical, GACA said. A Sudanese resident was killed in the attack.

The Riyadh attack was one of two that GACA reported on Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 and 7 October. An attack on Abha International Airport on Tuesday killed two female residents, one Moroccan and one Algerian. It also injured 28 people, including Saudi citizens, a Bangladeshi resident and a Filipino resident.

The two attacks left three people dead and 36 injured, according to GACA. The authority said all the injured were taken to hospital for treatment and that the attacks caused some property damage.

In a statement on Thursday, 8 October, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates said it was following up on the condition of the injured Egyptian nationals.

The ministry instructed its consular sector and the Egyptian Embassy in Riyadh to continue coordinating with Saudi authorities regarding their situation.

Egypt condemned the attacks and reaffirmed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia, warning that the escalation threatened regional security and stability.

The attacks come amid renewed fighting in Yemen, with the Houthi movement claiming responsibility for strikes on Saudi airports. The escalation has disrupted air travel, prompting several international airlines, including Lufthansa and Air India, to suspend flights to Riyadh, according to Reuters.
