Women’s World No. 15 Anahat Singh advanced to the quarterfinals of the Canadian Open squash, a USD 103,750 PSA Silver-level tournament in Toronto, with a four-game win over Briton Saran Nghiem.
Fresh from reaching her maiden PSA Gold-level semifinals at the Silicon Valley Open, Anahat beat World No. 52 Saran 11-6, 4-11, 11-5, 11-7 in the second round after receiving a first-round bye.
Reigning world junior champion Anahat, the sixth seed, will next meet Egyptian world No 7 and top seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir.
“This is actually the court that I won World Juniors on. So, I consider this a good court. I had a breakthrough win here at the Canadian Open. Since then, I’ve just been focussing on getting my ranking up and doing well against the top players. I’ve been practising, training as hard as I can and trying to put on a show against the top ten players as well,” Anahat told the PSA Squash Tour.
Meanwhile, Indian World No. 36 Veer Chotrani lost to World No. 10 Mohamed ElShorbagy (Eng) 7-11, 7-11, 6-11 in the men’s second round of the PSA Silver-level Canada Cup also in Toronto.
