Thai imam’s wife finds paint splashed on car after prayers in Tumpat, Kelantan police on the case

KOTA BHARU, Sept 23 — Police have confirmed receiving a report of an act of mischief on a car belonging to the wife of a Thai imam at the Kok Majid Jetty area in Tumpat Monday.

Tumpat police chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie said the 30-year-old imam had parked the white Honda City near the jetty at 7.10pm before heading to Masjid Pulau Beluru for Isyak prayers.

“After completing his prayers and returning to the location at 9.36pm, the complainant discovered paint marks on the vehicle,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Mohd Khairi said the imam had earlier received a screenshot from a friend, alleging he was threatened for tipping off the authorities about undocumented migrant smuggling in the Tumpat islands.

“The complainant, however, denied the allegation,” he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code, including a possible link to the information the complainant received before the incident.
