Nagoya, Japan (ANTARA) - Indonesian para-swimmer Maulana Rifky Yavianda clinched his second gold medal and set a new Asian record after winning the men's 100-meter backstroke S12 final at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games on Tuesday.

Competing at the Nagoya City General Gymnasium, Yavianda finished the race in 1 minute 3.07 seconds to deliver another gold for the Indonesian contingent.

The 24-year-old held off a spirited challenge from host-nation favorite Genki Saito, edging out the Japanese swimmer by 0.69 seconds and relegating Saito to silver with a time of 1:03.76.

Uzbekistan’s Dmitriy Khorlin captured the bronze medal in 1:05.77. Further back, Iran's Abadi Karimi Jahan took fourth place in 1:11.32, followed by Chinese Taipei’s Lin Shin-wei in fifth with a time of 1:18.49.

Tuesday’s triumph marked Yavianda's second gold of the Games, following his victory in the men’s 100-meter freestyle S12 on Monday evening.

In addition to winning the gold, he also broke Asian records, clocking 30.31 seconds in the first 50 meters and completing the race in 1 minute 3.07 seconds.

The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games, running from October 18 to 24, features competitions across 18 sports.

By the end of day three, the Indonesian contingent had amassed a total of 25 medals — four gold, four silver, and 17 bronze. With this haul, Indonesia sat in ninth place in the overall Asian Para Games medal table as of Tuesday night.
