Oburu Odinga Progressing Well In Hospital, Expresses Thanks For Ruto’s Support At Bondo Memorial

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi visited ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga in the hospital following his return from Bondo, where he attended the dedication of the late Raila Odinga’s mausoleum.

According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Mudavadi—who also holds the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs portfolio—found Senator Oburu making steady progress in his recovery. Mudavadi briefed the family patriarch on the proceedings at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, where President William Ruto officially handed over the completed mausoleum to the Odinga family.

“The Prime Cabinet Secretary was pleased to find Senator Oburu making good progress in his recovery. Mudavadi briefed him on the ceremony in Bondo, which brought together national leaders and Kenyans from across the country to honour the life and legacy of his brother, the late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga,” the statement read.

Expressing his gratitude, Senator Oburu thanked President Ruto, national leaders, and the residents of Nyanza for their continued support and tribute to his late brother’s immense contributions to Kenya’s democratic development.

Oburu’s absence at the high-profile ceremony had drawn concern, as he is both the head of the Odinga family and the leader of the ODM party. During the event, his nephew Raila Odinga Jr. conveyed his greetings and apologies, while Oburu’s eldest son, Jaoko Oburu, delivered a written message on his father’s behalf.

In the message, Oburu explained that he was observing strict medical advice to rest, though his “spirit, mind, and heart” remained with the family and mourners in Bondo. He described the mausoleum as a lasting monument to his brother’s ideals of freedom, constitutionalism, and national unity.

Earlier during the Bondo gathering, President Ruto addressed the crowd’s inquiries regarding Oburu’s health, assuring residents that the veteran politician was receiving proper medical care and remained closely updated on community and political affairs.
