India batting star Virat Kohli has paid tribute to veteran actor Nana Patekar, describing him as a “true legend of Indian cinema” following his death.Patekar passed away at his residence in Goa on Thursday morning after suffering a severe cardiac arrest.

He was 75.Taking to social media, Kohli expressed his condolences and remembered Patekar’s contribution to Indian cinema.

“A true legend of Indian cinema. His work and legacy will live on for generations. Rest in peace, Nana Patekar ji. Om Shanti,” Kohli wrote.Patekar was one of the prominent names in Hindi and Marathi cinema. He made his acting debut with Gaman in 1978 and went on to earn widespread acclaim for his performances in films including Parinda, Prahar, Angaar, Krantiveer, Tiranga, Khamoshi and Ab Tak Chhappan.One of the defining performances of his career came in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Parinda in 1989. His portrayal of the ruthless crime boss Anna earned him the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.Patekar remained active in films in recent years. He featured in Housefull 5, which starred Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh, and played a police officer in Vishal Bhardwaj’s O’Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri.

He also had a cameo in Subedar, featuring Anil Kapoor and Radhika Madan.His contribution to cinema was recognised with the Padma Shri in 2013, India’s fourth-highest civilian award.Away from the screen, Patekar was also associated with social initiatives, particularly efforts supporting farmers and families affected by drought in Maharashtra.
