Confirmed: SABC to televise Bafana Bafana’s big game

South Africa’s national broadcaster confirmed on social media that viewers can follow the Group D clash from 17:30, with the match itself scheduled to kick off at 18:00 South African time.

The fixture will also be available to stream on SABC Plus, while SABC Radio Stations and SABC Sport will provide additional coverage.

Bafana Bafana travel to Cairo, Egypt for their second 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match after opening the campaign with a 2-1 victory over Guinea at the Orlando Amstel Arena.

Ime Okon gave South Africa the lead before Guinea equalised through Seydouba Cisse. Samukele Kabini then came off the bench to score the winning goal and hand Pitso Mosimane victory in his first competitive match back in charge of the national team.

The second Group D fixture will be played at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo because Eritrea’s home stadiums currently do not meet the requirements for international matches.

PITSO MOSIMANE DEALS WITH TWO MAJOR ABSENCES

Bafana Bafana will enter the match without Teboho Mokoena and Aubrey Modiba after both Mamelodi Sundowns players picked up injuries during the victory over Guinea.

Modiba was forced off in the second half with hamstring tightness, while Mokoena experienced significant discomfort late in the match. The midfielder remained on the pitch because Bafana Bafana had already used their substitution windows.

Their absence could force Mosimane to make changes to his starting XI as South Africa look to build on their winning start. SABC Sport has also reported that Mosimane has identified Eritrean striker Ali Suleiman as a player Bafana Bafana must watch closely.

Eritrea will not be short of confidence after holding Kenya to a 1-1 draw in Nairobi. Nahom Girmai Netabay put Eritrea ahead before the hosts found an equaliser.

The result means Bafana Bafana cannot afford to approach the fixture casually, despite South Africa entering the match with a significantly higher FIFA ranking.

For Mosimane and Bafana Bafana, the objective is straightforward: collect another three points and strengthen their position in Group D.
