Ram Gopal Varma REACTS to AI-morphed 'Chuttamalle' video controversy, says 'Focus should have been on catching the perpetrator'

The misuse of artificial intelligence in creating fake and objectionable celebrity videos has once again triggered a major debate in the film industry. The latest controversy involves the morphed video of ‘Chuttamalle’ from the Telugu film 'Devara,' starring Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. The video drew strong reactions from the actors and several celebrities, raising concerns over the misuse of AI to create content without consent.

RGV says celebrities gave the AI video more publicity

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has now offered a different view on the controversy. Reacting to the widespread discussion around the morphed video, RGV argued that repeatedly talking about such content can end up giving it more reach. “The only thing all the celebrities succeeded in, is to publicise and thereby make crores and crores of people see the objectionable link,” he wrote on his social media handle. He added that the focus should have been on identifying and catching the person behind the video instead of drawing more attention to the content.

Taking his argument further, RGV said that the priority should have been to track down the creator and those responsible for circulating the material. “The smart thing would have been to concentrate on catching the perpetrator and publicise that,” he stated. According to the filmmaker, the social media reaction also brought unnecessary attention to the victim’s identity and the offensive material. His comments have added another layer to the ongoing discussion about the benefits and dangers of AI-generated content.

Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR strongly condemn AI misuse

The controversy began after the objectionable video circulated online, prompting Janhvi Kapoor and Jr NTR to speak out. Jr NTR condemned the use of AI to disrespect a woman and warned that legal action would be taken against those who created and spread the content. Janhvi described the misuse of technology to objectify women and circulate fictionalised material without consent as deeply violating. She also urged people to respect a woman’s image, boundaries and choice.Meanwhile, RGV has continued to raise questions about how society should respond as AI-generated content becomes increasingly difficult to control.
