Indonesia targets Rp5 tln economic impact from 2026 Mandalika MotoGP

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned aviation and tourism holding company PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia—known as InJourney—aims to generate an economic impact of nearly Rp5 trillion (approximately US$279.33 million) from the upcoming Mandalika MotoGP event in West Nusa Tenggara.
Scheduled for October 9–11, 2026, the 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia marks the fifth consecutive year the world championship event has been hosted at Mandalika since its debut in 2022.
"The Mandalika MotoGP is about more than just three days of racing; we are building a legacy for Indonesia," InJourney President Director Maya Watono said in a statement released on Thursday.
Maya noted that the event acts as a catalyst to develop destinations, strengthen connectivity, stimulate regional economies, and highlight Indonesia on the global stage.
The event is projected to generate a wide-reaching multiplier effect, engaging up to 3,000 local workers and nearly 600 MSMEs across the accommodation, culinary, transportation, trade, and tourism sectors.
To anticipate high travel demand, InJourney Airports has scheduled 66 extra flights at Lombok International Airport, comprising 48 additional regular flights, 11 charter flights, four aircraft upgrades, and three positioning flights.
Meanwhile, hotel occupancy surrounding the circuit area is approaching 100 percent.
Maya emphasized that sustaining the global event requires close synergy among government ministries, agencies, state-owned enterprises, local administrations, and key stakeholders.
Spectator attendance at the event has surged steadily, rising from 102,929 in 2023 to 121,252 in 2024, before hitting a record 140,324 visitors in 2025.
Broadcast to nearly 200 countries with an international fan base exceeding 632 million, the grand prix serves as a major platform to promote Indonesia's tourism, culture, and creative industries.
Investment management agency Danantara Chief Operating Officer Dony Oskaria highlighted that five years of hosting MotoGP has fundamentally transformed West Nusa Tenggara’s tourism ecosystem.
"Traffic to Mandalika continues to grow, accompanied by the expansion of hotels, restaurants, flight services, and various other economic activities. This demonstrates that an international event can act as a catalyst, driving growth across the broader ecosystem," Dony stated.
