All the South-South states took part in the championship, except Cross River State.

Recall that Enku’s bronze-medal feat at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, was Nigeria’s first medal in the event in 24 years.

Several judo clubs from outside the South-South region also participated in the 2026 edition of the competition, which began in 2022.

Edo State emerged overall winners, with Delta State finishing as runners-up.

Uzo Uzama Uzo, Secretary of Ekus Judo Club, Asaba, was rewarded with N1 million by the championship sponsor, Lanky Osagie Omoregbe, popularly known as Big Judo, for his dedication and commitment to the development of the club.

Eighteen judo coaches and 10 officials conducted the championship.

The Chief Executive Officer of the judo club, Eke Osahon, commended the staff and management of the Delta State Sports Commission for their support towards the success of the championship.

“During my active days as a judoka, we never had this kind of opportunity. So, in my own way of giving back to society and ensuring that judo, as a sport, is taken to the next level, I will ensure that this competition is sustained,” Osahon promised.
