Emmerdale boss explains shock Graham Foster and Baby Tate twist

Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper has spoken out after Monday night's double twist, which revealed that Baby Tate is safe and well and Graham Foster hasn't really left the show.

Fans had been wondering about the fates of both characters, after Graham disappeared from the village with the baby while seemingly following Joe Tate's orders to have the youngster sent away.

Joe has refused to have anything to do with his newborn son as he's consumed with grief for his late fiancée Dawn Fletcher.

Graham agreed to follow Joe's instructions, but warned that it'd be the last job he'd carry out for him and that he wouldn't be back.

However, in the closing moments of Monday's episode, Kim arrived at a secluded cottage – which turned out to be Graham's secret hideout!

Kim brought along supplies, supporting Graham as he continues to take care of Baby Tate in secret…

Addressing the twist for the first time, Sophie commented: "Kim was devastated at the prospect of Joe giving the baby up for adoption. While it initially appeared that Graham and Kim had resigned themselves to the plan, they have secretly intervened to ensure the baby remains safe and hidden away.

"Desperate for Joe not to come to regret his decision, Kim's determined to find a way to reunite father and son.

"But with Joe still consumed by grief over losing Dawn – and Thea set on vengeance against Kim – can Kim and Graham continue to protect their secret?"

The ruse may need to go on for a while yet, as Joe shows no signs of regretting his decision to give his son away.

The Home Farm businessman is currently laser-focused on taking revenge against those he blames for Dawn's demise – and he'll soon concentrate on the Miligans again, with help from Sadie King.

Meanwhile, Kim sees the baby as a potential heir and an opportunity to redeem herself for the many mistakes that she's made when it comes to her family over the years.

Could this be the key to Kim proving herself to long-lost daughter Thea, who currently sees her as a villain?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 8pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
