Malaysia’s passport is now No. 2 globally, rising above the UK, US and Germany

Malaysia’s passport has risen to second place globally in the Passport Index Global Passport Power Rank 2026, moving up from third place last year.

Malaysia shares the second spot with Singapore, while the United Arab Emirates retains first place.

Malaysia’s Immigration Department said the ranking reflects the strength and international acceptance of the Malaysian passport.

According to the department, Malaysian passport holders have access to 175 destinations, comprising 129 visa-free destinations and 46 destinations offering visas on arrival. A further 23 destinations require a visa.

Ahead of major Western economies

Spain ranks third in the 2026 ranking.

Sixteen countries share fourth place, including Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Switzerland, Greece, Portugal, Austria, Norway, Ireland and Japan.

The United Kingdom ranks seventh, while Canada and New Zealand are in eighth place. The United States ranks 10th.

Thailand ranks 53rd globally, sharing the position with Vanuatu.

The latest ranking places the Malaysian passport ahead of several advanced economies and reflects its increased international mobility, according to Malaysia’s Immigration Department.
