Rwanda defeats Nigeria in volleyball classification match

Nigeria suffered another setback at the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Nations Volleyball Championship in Tunis after losing 3-1 to Rwanda in their classification match on Wednesday.

Rwanda won 25-23, 25-20, 18-25, 25-19 in Match 28 of the championship to advance in the classification standings.

The Rwandans edged a closely contested opening set, 25-23, before extending their advantage by taking the second set, 25-20.

Nigeria responded in the third set, producing a stronger display to win 25-18 and reduce the deficit.

However, Rwanda regained control in the fourth set and closed out the match 25-19 to secure a 3-1 victory.

The defeat means Nigeria will now continue in the classification phase as the competition enters its final stages.

Rwanda’s victory keeps their hopes of securing a higher finish alive, while Nigeria will have to regroup for their remaining classification fixture.

The championship, featuring some of Africa’s leading volleyball nations, has given Nigeria another chance to test its strength against continental opposition.

Nigeria had hoped to improve its position in Tunis after missing out on the medal positions, but Wednesday’s defeat leaves the team facing another battle for classification honours.

The Nigerians will now look to end their campaign on a positive note when they return to action in the remaining classification matches.
