Motaung breaks silence on Chiefs’ poor run under Da Cruz

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has blamed the extended FIFA international break for disrupting the team’s momentum this season.

The Glamour Boys are winless in their last four league matches, including a defeat to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby.

Speaking to Robert Marawa, Motaung said Amakhosi enjoyed a promising start to the campaign before the international break disrupted their rhythm.

Motaung explains Chiefs poor form

“I think if you know the game of football, if you’ve been in the game of football for years or for the time that I’ve been in football, there are a lot of impacts,” Motaung said.

“Remember, we had a pre-season, came back, we had a good start, we thought we were on the roll. Then we had a three-week break, and you had injuries. Then you had a three-week break, where with the intensity that we had and the momentum, it broke.”

Under head coach Fernando Da Cruz, Chiefs have shown signs of improvement, but their recent results have left them 11 points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto giants will be desperate to turn things around and get their league campaign back on track after a disappointing run of results.

Despite the challenges, the Chiefs hierarchy has continued to back Da Cruz.

Last week, Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr. reaffirmed his trust in the French coach, insisting that he was not going anywhere despite the club’s CAF Confederation Cup exit.
