The Man from B.U.N.G.L.E: McCallum gets plaque... but with wrong address

As a Soviet spy tasked with saving the world, attention to detail often meant the difference between life and death.
But a mission to mark the life of Man from U.N.C.L.E star David McCallum was thwarted when a blue plaque was installed at his birthplace – with the wrong address on it.
The plaque was unveiled at 24 Kersland Street, Glasgow, where the late Scottish actor was indeed born, but incorrectly states the address is in Partick rather than Hillhead.
McCallum, who died at 90 in 2023, was best known for playing Russian agent Illya Kuryakin in the 1960s US show, alongside Robert Vaughn, who played his unlikely suave American ally.
The plaque was created by students at Glasgow Clyde College in partnership with Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren.

A GCC spokesman said: 'We're delighted to have helped celebrate David McCallum and his connection to Glasgow, although eagle-eyed locals may have spotted a small geographical slip-up on the plaque.
'We're sorry for the error and are arranging for it to be corrected as quickly as possible.'
