Big names lead Malaysia's charge for more Asian Games medals today [WATCH]

NAGOYA: National athletes, including several big names, will have the opportunity to add to Malaysia's medal haul across multiple events at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games today.

The men's sepak takraw squad will face Indonesia in the men's team regu semi-finals, with a win likely setting up a final against traditional rivals Thailand.

In other team events, the men's hockey squad will face Thailand in Group B, while Malaysia will play Nepal in the kabaddi preliminaries.

In squash, Ng Eain Yow, Sanjay Jeeva, Aira Azman and S. Sivasangari will see action in the men's and women's singles round of 16. Ameeshenraj Chandaran-Rachel Arnold and Syafiq Kamal-Aifa Azman will compete in the mixed doubles round of 16.

In athletics, national record holder Azeem Fahmi will open his campaign in the men's 100m event.

Seven-time SEA Games champion Irfan Shamsuddin will compete in the men's discus final.

In men's swimming, Tong Yu Jin and Bryan Leong will feature in the 50m butterfly, while Andrew Goh and Tan Khai Xin will take to the pool for the 200m breaststroke.

Dhuha Zulfikry is Malaysia's sole representative in the 800m freestyle, while Arvin Shaun Singh Chahal, Goh Li Jie, Khiew Hoe Yean and Lim Yin Chuen will combine for the 4x100m freestyle relay.

In shooting, two-time SEA Games gold medallist Johnathon Wong will feature in the men's 10m air pistol event.

In artistic gymnastics, Yeap Kang Xiang and Marissa Zaiful will compete in the women's individual vault final, while Rachel Yeoh will feature in the women's uneven bars final.

As it stands, Malaysia have won three gold, one silver and five bronze medals so far, with over a week of competition remaining.
