New James Bond Reboot Officially Scores Biggest Script Update Yet
A cinematic obsessive with the filmic palate of a starving raccoon, Rob London will watch pretty much anything once. Ever since Daniel Craig's final bow as James Bond in No Time to Die in 2021, fans of the long-running action franchise have been waiting for the next installment. Five years later and counting, and they're still waiting. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel, courtesy of screenwriter Steven Knight: he has an encouraging update about the film's progress.
Knight is best known as the creator of the TV series Peaky Blinders and House of Guinness. He's also no stranger to the big screen, having penned the scripts for Eastern Promises, Pawn Sacrifice, Spencer, and more. Recently, he's written the script for the rock documentary Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger; the film, which centers around the reunion of the fractious Gallagher brothers of the band Oasis, is now playing in select theaters.
Now, as related to Zoe Ball on the UK's Greatest Hits Radio, Knight indicates that the script is finished. However, at the moment, all other details about the film remain for the film-makers' eyes only, including the much-anticipated announcement of the actor who will fill the coveted mantle of the UK's premier super-spy. He thoroughly enjoyed the process, saying, "I’m absolutely loving doing it. It’s an honor to be asked. And believe it’s going to be so good. I really do believe it’s going to be amazing." In an earlier interview, Knight has indicated that he may have be privy to the casting news during the writing process, stating, "It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor."
What Do We Know About Bond 26?
We may not know who's playing Bond, but we know who'll be sending him on his first mission. Denis Villeneuve, fresh off the epic Dune trilogy, will helm the film. It's Bond's first mission under new management, as Eon Productions, the company that had controlled Bond's big-screen destiny since Dr. No in 1962, sold the property to Amazon MGM Studios. The Broccoli family, first under Albert "Cubby" Broccoli and later under his children Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, had shepherded the franchise for fifty years before selling control to longtime production partner MGM, which is now an arm of the Amazon octopus.
