Here’s everything you need to know about when Egypt will shift to winter time

Winter closing times for public shops, restaurants, and cafes came into effect on Friday, September 25—a change that impacts working hours, school schedules, public transport, and various other daily activities linked to the country’s official time.

Citizens are anticipating the return to winter time in 2026—and the end of daylight saving time—in the coming weeks.

When will winter time begin?

Daylight saving time ends at the close of Thursday, October 29 and winter time begins on Friday, October 30.

The transition to winter time is achieved by setting the clock back 60 minutes at the scheduled time of the change.

At midnight marking the end of Thursday, October 29 the clock is set back by one full hour—shifting from 12:00 AM (midnight) to 11:00 pm—thereby initiating winter time.

As of September 25, approximately 35 days remain until the end of Daylight Saving Time and the return to winter time in Egypt.

Each year, Daylight Saving Time remains in effect from the last Friday of April until the end of the last Thursday of October.

Why does Egypt implement Daylight Saving Time?

The implementation of Daylight Saving Time is linked to making greater use of daylight hours during the summer months by advancing the clock by 60 minutes.

This time-adjustment system is also part of measures aimed at rationalizing energy consumption and reducing the use of electricity and fuel during specific times of the day.
