Meghan Markle, Prince Harry Switch Kids' School Over Security Concerns

Meghan Markle Shares First Life Update Since Returning to U.K. With Prince Harry

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's kids are starting the school year a little differently.

As the Duke and Duchess of Sussex adjust to life back in the United Kingdom, their kids Archie, 7, and daughter Lilibet, 5, were transferred to a different school two days after sessions began amid security concerns.

"The decision for the children to move schools was taken following a discussion with the family's security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements," their spokesperson confirmed in a Sept. 14 statement to Hello! magazine. "The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family."

Their spokesperson emphasized that the move was simply a personal choice, adding, "This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there."

E! News has reached out to Meghan and Harry's rep for comment and has not yet heard back.

The couple returned to Harry's native England six years after they moved to the United States in 2020, taking a step back from their royal duties. But the move isn't permanent, with E! News learning last month that they are staying overseas for an extended period while still keeping their home in Montecito, Calif.

As they embrace their new life across the pond, however, King Charles III confirmed in a letter obtained by the BBC on Sept. 7 that there will be "no change" to Harry and Meghan's status as non-working royals and that they will continue to live as "private citizens."

For Harry, returning to the U.K. with his family after losing his appeal against the government's decision to deny him security protection didn't feel possible just a year ago.

"I can't see a world where I would be bringing my wife and kids back to the U.K. at this point," he admitted to the BBC in May 2025. "And the things that they're going to miss is well, everything. I love my country. I always have, despite what some people in that country have done."

The 41-year-old did, however, express his hopes to make amends with his family, including brother Prince William, in the future.

"I would love reconciliation with my family,” Harry added. "I will always. There's no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don't know how much time my father has. He won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile."

As Meghan and Harry navigate the latest chapter of their lives, keep reading for more celebrity kids on their first days of school.
