Tuesday's Economic Calendar

Translate

The Federal Open Market Committee meets eight times a year to determine the near-term direction of monetary policy.

8:30 AM Durable Goods Orders

Durable goods orders are new orders placed with domestic manufacturers for factory hard goods.

Another robust rise in capex is seen at 0.5 percent for core capital goods as the AI-driven investment boom continues. Durables overall expected up 1.4 percent, skewed up by aircraft, as usual.

9:00 AM Case-Shiller Home Price Index

The S&P Corelogic Case-Shiller home price index tracks monthly changes in the value of residential real estate in 20 metropolitan regions across the nation.

The year-on-year rise in home prices is expected to be flat at 2.5 percent in August as housing price inflation remains muted amid weak demand.

9:00 AM FHFA House Price Index

The Federal Housing Finance Agency, or FHFA, House Price Index, or HPI, covers single-family housing, using data provided by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

The consensus looks for a muted, trend-like 0.2 percent increase in home prices on the month.

10:00 AM Consumer Confidence

The Conference Board's confidence report surveys consumers on their assessments of the labor market, business activity, and their own financial conditions.

The separate University of Michigan survey result showed sentiment effectively flat at depressed levels in October from September as consumers focus on high inflation and high gasoline prices in particular. The consensus looks for a similar reading from the Conference Board report on Tuesday with the consumer confidence index expected at 80.4 in October versus 81.9 in September and 88.6 in August.

10:00 AM New Home Sales

New home sales measure the number of newly constructed homes with a committed sale during the month.

Surprisingly bad homebuilder sentiment and weak housing start reports have reflected high mortgage rates and consumers' inflation worries, bad news for the housing market. The consensus looks for new home sales down to a 651K rate in September from 684K in August.

10:00 AM Richmond Fed Manufacturing Index

This survey tracks business conditions in the Richmond Fed's manufacturing sector.

1:00 PM 5-Yr Note Auction

Treasury notes are sold at regularly scheduled public auctions. The competitive bids at these auctions determine the interest rate paid on each Treasury note issue.

1:00 PM Money Supply

The monetary aggregates are alternative measures of the money supply by degree of liquidity.
