Madonna confirmed for first VMA performance in 23 years

Madonna has been confirmed for her first VMA performance in 23 years.

The pop legend will open the ceremony on September 27 at 8pm ET, marking her first performance at the show in 23 years.

She is the most nominated artist this year thanks to her new album ‘Confessions II’, where she’s received eleven nods for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year and more.

Madonna’s debut VMAs appearance was at the award’s inaugural edition in 1984, where she made pop culture history with her ‘Like A Virgin’ performance.

She would also bring her iconic 18th-century palatial French vision of her smash hit ‘Vogue’ to the ceremony in 1990.

The last time Madonna performed was in 2003, where she made headlines again – this time, for kissing Britney Spears.

Other artists who have been nominated at this year’s VMAs include Taylor Swift, who’s received nine nods including Artist Of The Year and Video Of The Year for ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’.

Ariana Grande, Bruno Mars and Sabrina Carpenter are also up for Artist of the Year. The Song Of The Year category also features BTS (‘Swim’), Olivia Dean (‘Man I Need’), Raye (‘Where Is My Husband!)’ and more.
