Flash floods force highway closures in Shah Alam

Heavy rain since last night has caused flash floods in Shah Alam, forcing the closure of several sections of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE), North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE).
PLUS Malaysia Bhd said floodwaters blocked both directions of the NKVE at KM9.1 between Shah Alam and Subang at 4.07am, forcing traffic diversions.
All lanes before the Shah Alam toll plaza and at the Shah Alam interchange on the ELITE were also closed.
Meanwhile, Prolintas GCE reported closures at Ramps B, C and D of the NKVE interchange following flash floods at 5.42am.
Motorists are advised to follow the instructions of traffic personnel and use alternative routes.
On social media, users have been sharing updates on the flooding, advising motorists to exercise caution when travelling through affected areas.
A Threads user posted a video of cars moving through floodwaters at Section 13 in Shah Alam, while another user posted a video of flooding and traffic congestion on the route from the Bukit Jelutong toll plaza to the NKVE.
On Monday, PLUS Malaysia Bhd said flash floods had forced the temporary closure of both directions of the NKVE between Setia Alam and Shah Alam between KM9.1 and KM9.4.
A total of 575 people from 253 families were affected by flash floods in Kampung Melayu Subang as of yesterday afternoon.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who visited the flood relief centre in Kampung Melayu Subang yesterday, has ordered that work on the Sungai Buloh and Sungai Damansara flood mitigation projects be expedited following repeated flooding in the area.
He said the two projects, costing nearly RM700 million and already approved by the federal government, must proceed without delay to minimise the risk of further flooding.
