Emmerdale reveals worrying update on Charity after Sarah's statement

Emmerdale has aired a worrying development in Charity Dingle's ordeal with Dr Todd as Sarah Sugden has made matters worse in her bid to help her grandmother.

The ITV soap has currently Charity behind bars for the murder of Dr Todd, who had sexually assaulted her amid a horrifying blackmailing scheme over the lineage of baby Leyla.

Fans know it was actually Sarah who killed Todd. She and Charity had come up with a self-defence story, though Sarah backtracked after discovering that her grandmother had lied to her about baby Leyla's biological parents.

In tonight's episode, Sarah tried to clear Charity's name by changing her statement again.

"You've changed your story more than once," DS Thea Ramsden told Sarah as DC Ben Price quizzed her on what really happened to Dr Todd.

While Sarah declared she wanted a solicitor, Mack visited Charity in prison, informing her that her granddaughter was still at the police station. A concerned Charity was worried that Sarah could be getting herself into trouble and berated Mack for trying to help.

At the Woolpack, Jacob and Mack butted heads about Sarah and Charity. The discussion soon became heated, with Mack blurting out that Jacob wouldn't be fit to look after Ross and Charity's baby should Sarah land in prison too.

With all pub patrons, including Ross, listening in, Mack immediately regretted his outburst as Aaron Dingle and Eric Pollard appeared shocked at the reveal that Leyla wasn't Sarah and Jacob's.

At the station, DS Ramsden reminded a zealous DC Price that Sarah was "a witness, not a suspect" and seemed willing to listen to her new version.

With her lawyer present, Sarah insisted that Charity did "nothing wrong" and said that she had initially turned on her grandmother "in the heat of the moment".

"I lied about what happened because I wanted to hurt her, because I was angry and now I can get in trouble for that, but I don't care," she said.

At the store, Pollard had a chat with Jacob, who embraced being Leyla's father despite the surrogacy bleep.

"As far as I'm concerned, I'm Leyla's dad," he said right just before Sarah walked through the door.

The reunion was interrupted by Mack, who marched in to ask Sarah about her conversation with the police.

"I want my wife to be home, just like you," he told Jacob before he could stop him from speaking with Sarah.

She hesitated at first, but was forced to admit that her new statement might've not changed much for Charity.

"I don't think they believed me," Sarah said in defeat. "They still think she killed Dr Todd deliberately."

As Mack looked beyond himself, Sarah said: "It's gonna be down to the jury."
