Two escape unhurt as house catches fire in Bukit Mertajam
BUKIT MERTAJAM: Two occupants escaped unhurt after their double-storey house in Cherok Tok Kun Bawah was engulfed in flames early today.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director John Sagun Francis said they received a distress call at 5.28am about the fire at the house in Lorong Masjid.
"The occupants, an adult man and a girl, managed to escape safely before firefighters arrived," he said.
The blaze destroyed about 80 per cent of the house and damaged a Yamaha FZ motorcycle by about 85 per cent.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 5.45am and fully extinguished it at 6.21am.
They then conducted operations to ensure no further hazards remained at the scene.
The scene was subsequently handed over to the Fire Investigation Team for further action.
