Valanka Alemao was elected the president of the Goa Football Association on Tuesday, succeeding Caitano Fernandes.
The elections took place at the Don Bosco Provincial House in Goa on October 27, with Valanka winning the election with 83 votes out of 160. She has been a member of the executive committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) since 2022, and also serves as the chairperson of the AIFF Women’s Committee.
Valanka has also been a member of the FIFA Women’s Football Development Committee for the 2025–2029 term.
She follows the footsteps of her father, Churchill Alemao, into the presidential role in Goa.
Churchill, the former Chief Minister of Goa, had held the post of GFA president between 2018 and 2022. The family owns the Indian Super League club Churchill Brothers, which acquired the franchise playing rights of Jamshedpur FC before the 2026-27 season.
Caetano, meanwhile, recently took up the post of deputy chairman of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF).
The elections of the state associations are expected to be completed by November 4 in accordance with the decisions taken at the AIFF Special General Meeting in Kolkata earlier this month.
