The Israeli drama Fauda scored its highest position ever on Netflix‘s weekly streaming rankings for a season that takes on the Oct. 7, 2023, attacks and their aftermath.

The series finished in fourth place among non-English language series for the week of Sept. 7-13, based on internal data from the streamer. That’s the highest spot Fauda has occupied since Netflix began releasing weekly rankings in the summer of 2021; season four peaked at No. 7 in January 2023 for its premiere week.

Fauda season five had 2.1 million views worldwide for the week; at a runtime of just under 7 1/2 hours, that equates to 15.9 million hours of watch time. It was a top 10 show in 41 countries (mostly in Europe and Asia) and No. 1 in Israel and Lebanon. It’s the latter country that may be of particular interest to observers, given that Israel’s military has been conducting ongoing operations in Lebanon in its fight with militia Hezbollah.

Most of Fauda’s fifth season is set in 2025 and follows the characters as they deal with the continued fallout from Oct. 7. Two episodes, however, take place on the day of the attacks. “I want [viewers] to look in my character’s eyes, and to see what we felt on those days,” co-creator and star Lior Raz said in a New York Times interview before the season premiered. “If it would happen in their countries, they would feel exactly like we felt and how we feel about the world. So I hope it would open people’s eyes to see what happened on Oct. 7.”

Above Fauda on the non-English langauge series chart are a Dutch thriller, The Perfect Lie (4.1 million views), Chinese romance The Early Spring (2.5 million views) and Mexican drama Lovesick (2.4 million views). Season two of The Gentlemen led the English-language series rankings for the week with 9.9 million views.
