Former IGB REIT CEO Elizabeth Tan dies at 42; company pays tribute to her legacy

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — IGB REIT Management Sdn Bhd has announced the passing of its former chief executive officer, Elizabeth Tan Hui Ning, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a leader remembered for her impact on both IGB REIT and IGB Commercial REIT.

In a notice to tenants, business partners and colleagues, the company said Tan “will be deeply remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her,” extending condolences to her father, Datuk Seri Robert Tan Chung Meng — executive chairman of IGB REIT Management — her sister Gabrielle Tan Hui Chween, and their family.

Tan, 42, was a seasoned property professional who graduated with First Class Honours from Cardiff University in 2004 before joining Mid Valley City Gardens Sdn Bhd the same year. Her career progressed swiftly, leading to her appointment as executive director in 2011. She later served as joint COO and head of operations and leasing at The Gardens Mall, before taking on the CEO role overseeing the mall’s operations.

She was appointed interim CEO of IGB REIT Management on Jan 1, 2024, following the retirement of Antony Patrick Barragry, but stepped down in March 2025 due to medical reasons. Tan also resigned as an alternate director of IGB Bhd in January 2026, citing health issues.

IGB REIT Management CEO Chai Lai Sim said the organisation extends its “deepest condolences to the family and loved ones during this very difficult time,” adding that the family has requested privacy as they mourn. Details of the wake and funeral arrangements will be announced once finalised.
