Hogwarts Legacy 2 Official Setting Shown Off In Epic Trailer

Regardless of how any of us felt about its shortcomings individually, there's no doubt that Hogwarts Legacy was a huge success for Warner Bros. and Avalanche Studios. As such, it was no surprise at all when a sequel was ordered relatively quickly after its initial release, with it now under active development across several studios.

The news that the next game would closely follow the upcoming HBO Harry Potter was actually quite divisive, with many wondering why they would break from the original story formula that worked so well. The success of that is still up in the air, but one positive is that it does mean we may have already seen exactly what the Hogwarts of the next game is going to look like.

As we noted last month, the first trailer for the upcoming HBO adaptation of Harry Potter has now been revealed to fans, and the castle we do see within it looks remarkably similar to the design used in Hogwarts Legacy. There are obvious differences, but these can easily be accounted for by the time difference between the original game and Harry's arrival at the school.

That said, those in charge of the franchise as a whole right now have reiterated how closely the next game and the show will be to each other thematically. In turn, that likely means that the castle we see in the trailer is essentially what we're going to get in Hogwarts Legacy 2, if only to retain the continuity they seem so keen to generate.

Happily, the castle looks very cool in what we get to see of it, so we can certainly do a lot worse if they decide to retain that design. That said, the castle was easily the strongest point of the original, and it was actually the surrounding areas that needed some work, so let's hope they don't neglect those in the meantime.

The real potential sticking point is undoubtedly the narrative, with many fans not particularly keen to just play out the basic Harry Potter story for the umpteenth time.

Arguably the best thing about Warner Bros. integrating all of the Harry Potter projects is that we hopefully shouldn't have to wait too long for the next Hogwarts Legacy game. Given how ridiculous development cycles have become over the last decade or more, that really is a blessing we shouldn't underestimate as a fan base.
