Local institutions continue net buying on Bursa Malaysia with RM352.4mil inflows

KUALA LUMPUR: Local institutions extended their net buying on Bursa Malaysia to two consecutive weeks by recording net inflows of RM352.4 million last week, according to MBSB Investment Bank Bhd (MBSB IB).

The investment bank said retailers also extended their net buying streak, marking the sixth consecutive week of net inflows with RM447.5 million.

On the other hand, foreign institutions were net sellers for the second straight week, recording RM799.9 million in net outflows during the week, MBSB IB said in its weekly fund flow report for the week ended Oct 2.

"Foreign institutions were net sellers on all five trading days, with the highest outflow recorded on Wednesday at RM228.4 million, followed by Thursday at RM187.9 million, Tuesday at RM172.4 million, Monday at RM142.1 million and Friday at RM69.1 million," it said.

The top three sectors that recorded net inflows from foreign institutions were technology at RM131.0 million, energy at RM93.2 million, and construction at RM78.4 million.

Meanwhile, the top three sectors that recorded net foreign outflows were financial services at RM460.6 million, utilities at RM339.8 million and healthcare at RM163.1 million, it said.

MBSB IB added that total average daily trading volume (ADTV) increased, with that of retail investors up 3.7 per cent, foreign institutions up 8.6 per cent, and local institutions down 7.9 per cent.
